when i embarked on this documentary journey, i really didn’t understand the scope of what i was getting into, and how big the issue was before i got to texas and witnessed what was happening down by the rio grande river.
the first thing that struck me was watching the systematic approach to how border patrol was processing the migrants that were crossing over the river via rafts (make sure to check out that page as well).
most of us we assume that border patrol is down by the border, patrolling and or stopping illegal entry into the country. but i was stunned when i watched as border patrol would set up a mile or two away from the border and just wait for the migrants to walk up to where they had lights, tents, vans, buses and more prepared to process them into the country.
i do understand the thought process behind having a system in place to handle massive amounts of migrants crossing over. but who is actually patrolling the border? what about the individuals who don’t decide to self report to border patrol?
in the few days that i documented this small area of the rio grande, i personally saw thousands of migrants cross over into texas.
